Tennessee Flight Training and The Webb School (Bell Buckle, Tenn.) have announced a new partnership that will allow eligible students to pursue flight training, offering a unique pathway to earning a private pilot certificate by the time they graduate high school.
Through this partnership, Webb students will enroll with Tennessee Flight Training and conduct their flight lessons at Shelbyville Municipal Airport. The collaboration marks the first aviation training opportunity of its kind at The Webb School, expanding the school’s experiential learning and STEM-based offerings.
“We at Tennessee Flight Training are thrilled to partner with The Webb School to train the next generation of pilots. The Webb School is a prestigious educational institution with a rich history and proven track record of producing future leaders across a wide range of careers. We are honored to offer the inaugural aviation program at The Webb School and look forward to working with the staff and teachers to produce the next generation of safe, knowledgeable, world-class aviators,” said Isaac Shrum, Vice President of Business Development at Tennessee Flight Training.
From Classroom to Cockpit: Steps Toward a Private Pilot Certificate
Students accepted into the program will begin with ground school instruction, where they’ll learn the fundamentals of aerodynamics, weather, aircraft systems, and flight planning. Once ground training is complete, they’ll transition to hands-on flight lessons with Tennessee Flight Training’s highly experienced Certified Flight Instructors (CFIs). Under the guidance of these FAA-certified professionals, students will progress through a self-paced, structured syllabus that includes dual and solo flights, culminating in preparation for the FAA written exam, practical test, and checkride.
“The Webb School is thrilled to announce our partnership with Tennessee Flight Training, fostering an exciting new avenue for our students to dream big, aim high, and chart a course together towards a future filled with high academic achievements and boundless horizons. Excitement awaits, let’s soar to greatness!” said Dr. Polly Parker, Head of School, The Webb School.
The aviation industry continues to face a global pilot shortage, making this program particularly timely. A career as a professional pilot offers excellent earning potential, travel opportunities, and long-term stability in both commercial and corporate sectors. By beginning their training early, students can accelerate their journey toward becoming airline, charter, or cargo pilots—or pursue aviation careers in flight instruction, aerospace, and beyond.
